MORE SESSION DETAILS

This session will explore various methods to produce successful projects when working with consultants. It will include tips on how to be a good client and how to manage and express your expectations of project outcomes. Calibrating expectations with your consultant is critical to a successful and productive relationship. This session will include information to help improve a planner’s procurement (such as developing the Request for Proposals/Qualifications, reviewing proposals and conducting interviews) and project management skills, which are critical for efficient and productive projects. The procurement process is critical to any successful project, and the techniques and time used in this first phase of a project are invaluable to defining a project’s direction. Once a consultant is procured, how does all the energy, enthusiasm, and promises made during the interview translate into a successful project? As with procurement, there are multiple ways a project manager can utilize their consultants more effectively. This session will provide guidance on the behind-the-scenes project management tasks that help projects run smoothly. It will also look at the basics of project closeout and how to make sure you, as the client, are getting the outcome you expected.
