Public Schools Interest Group
The Public Schools Interest Group was established in September 2015 to allow planners to collaborate and share perspectives about public schools. The mission of the interest group is to create stronger linkages between the planning profession and public school districts in order to support and strengthen public schools and in so doing, create stronger neighborhoods and stronger cities.
To further this mission, the APA Public Schools Interest Group has established six different focus areas:
- Planners Role in Student Education Outcomes;
- Master Plan Education Element;
- School Facility Planning;
- School Funding;
- Schools and Neighborhoods; and
- Collaboration, Governance, and School Choice.
The interest group includes over 100 members, including many planning academics and school facility planners. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in supporting strong public schools in their community.
