Since winning the City Arch River competition in 2010, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates has been working on the planning and design of projects at the Arch Grounds in St. Louis. MVVA landscape architects James Smith and Adrienne Heflich will describe how recent improvements resolve longstanding urban-scale challenges and make new connections across downtown, the park, the Arch, and on to the Mississippi River. They’ll share how early concepts developed through to construction via a multi-agency planning and review process. Following the presentation, James and Adrienne will lead a walking tour to three project areas on the Arch Grounds – The Park Over the Highway, The East Slopes, and the North Gateway – that have been crucial to the Project’s success.
