Overview

The first part of the session will focus on Deerfield Township which has a population of  approximately 38,000 residents, six (6) developed parks and additional open spaces, pocket parks and facilities with a network of trails and recreational facilities that comprise over 450 acres. The purpose of the project is to develop a community-supported comprehensive Parks Master Plan that provides guidance for future development and redevelopment of the Township’s parks, recreation programming, open space, trails, and facilities. To accomplish this, Woolpert implemented a multi-prong public engagement strategy that consisted of the following:

·         Focus Group Interviews/Meetings

·         Project Website- http://www.plandeerfieldparks.com/

·         Four Visioning Workshops

·         Statistically Valid Community Survey

The second part of this session will summarize the public engagement process and focus on the community’s desires for the Kingswood property, which is a contentious property within the community. In 2017, plans were proposed for a mixed-use style development at Kingswood, but due to public outcry, those plans have been tabled. Today, the development potential of the Kingswood site ranges from leaving it as passive recreation/open space, to developing active park amenities such as ballfields, playgrounds and multi-purpose trails, to developing portions of the property for community use and/or increased tax revenue. The results of the Parks Master Plan public engagement will inform the Township of the community’s desires for the property and a concept plan will be prepared that reflects the community desires. The community approved Kingswood Property Concept Plan will be presented and summarized during the session.
