As planners, having a vision is important to define what we want in our communities and outline a path for long-term success. Three area communities are well-versed when it comes to developing a vision and more importantly, implementing it. Hear about the past, present, and future of three vision plans in Kansas City, Kansas, Lenexa, and Overland Park.

The definition of the word “vision” is to imagine, experience seeing something in a dream or a trance. As planners, we help to make that dream a reality through the development of community visions and plans. Three area communities took on this challenge to develop a vision for their community or a portion of their community, resulting in Village West in Kansas City, Kansas, Lenexa City Center in Lenexa, and Vision Metcalf in Overland Park. Several years removed from the creation of their visions, the cities continue to implement some of the highest profile plans in the Kansas City metro area. Speakers from each city will discuss past planning efforts and community discussions that were the impetus behind the need for a vision, present implementation efforts and developments including losses and triumphs along the way, and future expectations and activities.
At the end of this session, you will have:
•        Received an overview of the plans and plan progress;
•        Heard stories about wins and losses; and
•        Received implementation tips and lessons learned.
