The session will start with a brief overview of the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) requirements and the benefits of the program. The Flint Hills MPO staff will walk the group through the process they use to create SRTS Plans for their smaller communities. The room will be broken up into smaller groups and each group provided a map of a community with an elementary school. Based on the knowledge the participants learned earlier in the session, the groups will be asked to outline the process they will use to create the SRTS Plan and begin recommending initial improvements to include within the Plan. Participants will walk away with a knowledge of what the SRTS Program is, affordable ways to collect the data needed to develop the Plan, and the process of how to create an effective SRTS Plan to leverage funding.
