A planning consultant, designer, main street manager, and community development director walk into a room…
The art + zen of revitalization isn’t as simple as a matrix or list of actions at the end of a plan. The real substance behind getting things done requires laying the groundwork well before the plan is complete.
What types of engagement will provide the greatest measures of support? How can those measures be translated into compelling visualizations to express community priorities? What incentives and matching programs are available? Do local, state, and national programs exist? How can the strong arm of social media be leveled such that it is your frenemy?
Implementation is as much about determination and a willingness to get creative as it is about budgeting – question the traditional and you will find new ways. Award-winning projects and revitalization efforts from around the country are highlighted via a facilitated discussion. Projects range from the Union Square Campus and South Elm Redevelopment in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the restoration and retrofitting of landmarked buildings and Main Street revitalization efforts in West Des Moines, Iowa, to the reversing of the classic case of “sprawl” in Oxford, Mississippi. Learn about community transformation and scales of change!
