Cities are recognizing the value of their curbsides as emerging mobility options and new travel patterns create increased and varied demands for this space. As a result, agencies and mobility providers are increasingly pursuing policies and practices that increase the flexibility, efficiency, and overall utilization of curbsides. Increased passenger loading activity on the curbs and streets have prompted agencies and transportation experts in cities such as San Francisco and Washington, D.C., to respond with strategies to manage congestion and identify ways that mobility providers and agencies can cooperate to ensure the safety of all street users.
Curbside management is fundamentally about creating an organization scheme that improves mobility and safety for all via prioritized and optimized curb use. In this session, explore the vast array of mobility options as well as policies and strategies being employed to coordinate with them. Hear a discussion of their effects on street safety, congestion, land use, equity, disabled access, transit ridership, transit operations, curbside management, and the regulatory landscape.
