Cambridge, Massachusetts, has secure low-income housing and an expanding range of high-income housing, but little that young (or older) professionals can afford. A robust community conversation resolved that residents are willing to tolerate unprecedented building heights if they deliver more middle-income housing and demonstrate excellent urban design. Thanks to a 33 percent height bonus, a groundbreaking 230-unit mixed-income development is under construction.
