rising to the challenge

APA Florida is committed to Rising to the Challenge of planning for Florida’s future. Our state faces many challenges, whether from the threat of sea level rise and pollution of our waterways to road congestion and economic blight. But with challenges come opportunities to learn, grow, succeed, and prosper. At the 2017 Annual Conference, APA Florida hopes to not only celebrate the great ways planners are meeting the current challenges of our communities, but also to prepare us to Rise to the Challenges of the future together.

The Host Committee has put together a diverse program of speakers, sessions, workshops, and tours designed for learning and inspiration. Keynote speakers Majora Carter and Hank Dittmar will bring fresh ideas on urban design and redevelopment to make our cities more livable, resilient and beautiful. There will be mobile tours across the region highlighting the future of commercial space travel, coastal adaptation, historic preservation, and small town revitalization. Special skill sessions will provide in-depth, hands-on experience using planning tools for community resilience and collaborative corridor design. Breakout sessions will cover everything from transportation, small town planning, environment, redevelopment, economic development, and planning practice.
