Baton Rouge, LA, United States
The Louisiana Smart Growth Summit has become one of the premier events promoting dialogue on innovative planning and exploring models for creating healthier and more resilient communities, making our streets safer while expanding transportation options, as well as examining the real estate market and development trends, and the important role of policymaking and leadership.
The summit is an educational resource for planners and AICP members, as well as other allied professionals including developers, architects, landscape architects, and engineers. This statewide conference helps to advance communities across Louisiana in their quest to become sustainable and prosperous by providing the opportunity to learn from planning experts as well as hear what challenges and successes other Louisiana communities have faced, creating valuable partnerships. The Smart Growth Summit covers the spectrum of planning-related topics at all scales, from neighborhood, municipality, region and state, zeroing in on the issues that are most pressing for Louisiana communities each year. Emphasizing the intersections and interdependence of various planning practices and quality of life in general is a key Summit objective – whether one is interested in land use, economic development, design, transportation, workforce development, urban or rural communities, environmental sustainability or creative placemaking. Summit sessions provide both deep dives into subject areas and the connections that illustrate the interdisciplinary nature and broad relevance of planning concepts. The topics discussed at the Smart Growth Summit are covered through plenary sessions, panel discussions, and workshops to dive into issues Louisiana planners are dealing with.
Center for Planning Excellence (CPEX) has hosted 12 successful summits with almost 500 participants each day at the 2017 conference from across Louisiana and nearby states. Content from summit sessions in the form of presentations and videos are made available online after each event for attendees, educators and decision-makers to reference and share. For additional information, please visit: https://summit.cpex.org/. The summit will offer 17 sessions and workshops this year.
