Expanding on the 1976 "I'm just a bill" short from Schoolhouse Rock, attendees will receive an in-depth briefing on the processing and workings of the Indiana General Assembly. Experienced Hoosier lobbyists will also share what they've learned about how to influence public policy and legislation in the public interest.
Attendees will learn how to effectively communicate that planning is part of the solution to many of the challenges facing the state of Indiana today, including: demographic changes, an ever-evolving state economy, attainable housing shortages, and the challenges our local governments are having to improve the quality of life for all Hoosiers.
Attendees will learn how to tell the planning story and deliver the planning message with confidence. This session will teach attendees how to create and use a message that is local and personal and that will resonate with elected officials and citizens alike.
Attendees will then hear from a state legislator with an interest in planning who wll share lessons she has learned about influencing elected officials, changing policy, and electing champions for good planning.
Lastly, the APA-Indiana Legislative and Policy Committee Co-Chairs will provide an update on the current legislative session and bills that the committee has been following.
