Public policy is the backbone of comprehensive planning. In Florida where comprehensive planning is governed by statewide legislation, planners need to be involved in the public policy arena. This workshop provides an in depth discussion of a number of emerging policy issues and legal changes in Florida that need to be addressed for the future. This workshop is focuses on significant public policy topic areas in Florida: the economy’s impact on communities and how they can position themselves for the future, the implications of the recent elections, and the housing needs and funding in Florida. These issue areas continue to be the current focus of policy makers throughout the state and their outcomes will have a profound impact on planning at all levels. This workshop will give attendees an understanding of the issues from diverse stakeholder viewpoints and provide the registrants with the necessary in-depth knowledge to effectively participate in the policy-making process. The invited panelists bring a wide range of experiences from both the public and private sector.
