In the wake of medical marijuana being legalized in Missouri, communities are now faced with the need to plan for this new legislation.  Attendees at this educational session will hear from a panel composed of city and county planners who will discuss how their respective communities are approaching the issue.  Example ordinances from Missouri cities and resources from APA National will also be shared for those interested in additional information.

Participants will leave with answers to the following questions:

  1. Copy and Paste or Starting from Scratch: How much effort should a community go to to develop unique zoning regulations for medical marijuana?
  2. How can a community avoid creating “unduly burdensome” regulations?
  3. Municipal Coordination: What are the advantages and disadvantages of neighboring jurisdictions going in separate directions with medical marijuana regulations?
  4. Community input: What level of public involvement is effective to give input on such an emotive and divisive issue?
