MORE SESSION DETAILS
Planners working in climate adaptation and resilience planning face no shortage of challenges: uncertain federal policies, legal complexities in altering local land use, limited funding for implementation, and ever-evolving methodologies and science. Learn how initiatives to form diverse, cross-sector, collaborative partnerships or “networks” can be used to leverage limited resources and develop expertise to address these challenges and advance community resilience. Presenters will discuss several national, city, and state examples (ranging from more established initiatives to start-ups), the specific needs they address, and the inherent role of planners to bridge cross-disciplinary boundaries within these initiatives. The session will feature examples from the Charleston Resilience Network, New Jersey Coastal Resilience Collaborative, and the Adapting to Rising Tides approach in the San Francisco Bay Area. Attendees will learn how collaborative networks can be effective frameworks for leveraging limited resources and promoting interdisciplinary solutions to advance community resilience, are structured and governed to accommodate interested organizations while meeting the needs of planners and decision-makers, require thoughtful governance structures to address how individuals and organizations engage with the network and its audience, and build capacity through various funding sources.
