MORE SESSION DETAILS
While acknowledging and supporting the topics of diversity and inclusion is an expectation of planners, most planners are unaware of their role in promoting diversity and inclusion or building this competency. Diversity initiatives are often separate from priority projects and budgets, living in a survey, separate initiative, or an abstract training. Yet to integrate diversity and inclusion seamlessly requires cultural awareness and cross-cultural competence — a frame of mind that comes from one’s own self-awareness and reflection. How do we expose ourselves to expand our experience and our comfort zone to increase our own and our organization’s cultural competence? This session will provide an overview of building cultural competencies into our workplaces and ourselves, including activities that help participants recognize how culture shapes "reality" and techniques that you can use to enhance cultural competence in your organization, your community, and yourself.
