People Behind the Plans: NewCities' Greg Lindsay

Podcast series host Courtney Kashima, AICP, and NewCities senior fellow Greg Lindsay grapple with the ways new technologies are changing cities and planning. Lindsay argues that we have chosen to make dense urban living a luxury. They also discuss Lindsay’s book, Aerotropolis: The Way We'll Live Next, co-working and co-living spaces, tactical urbanism, and the equity implications of technology.

Listen or subscribe to this series on iTunes or Stitcher, or tune in from APA's podcasts page.

Across the country, brick-and-mortar stores are losing ground to online competitors. This month’s cover story, “Retail Realities,” drops in on small- to medium-sized cities that are updating regulations, revising codes, and offering financial incentives to support hometown retail and spur economic development. Read this and more in the July issue of Planning.

We love parades and fireworks, but they aren't the only ways communities celebrated Independence Day. Music and food fests and a vintage car and motorcycle show were July 4 highlights at some APA-designated Great Places in America.
In Gray, Maine, the Northern New England Planners4Health Task Force and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine conducted an inexpensive and effective pilot project to improve pedestrain safety on a road connecting the senior center and the library.
