APA receives $50K grant to assist disaster recovery
APA and the APA Foundation have been awarded $50,000 from the Pisces Foundation, which seeks ways to accelerate to a world where people and nature thrive together. Grant funds will support recovery planning in communities affected by recent hurricanes, helping them to become safer and stronger.

Initially, APA will use approximately half of the funds to create new resources — adding to those always available from APA's Hazards Planning Center — and establish a network of experts to provide technical assistance to disaster-struck communities. The goal is ensuring that climate resilience and green infrastructure are widely accepted in their recovery plans. In Phase Two, the remaining funds will support a volunteer Recovery Planning Assistance Team.

From scholar to leader
The APA Foundation makes the planning profession more accessible by awarding scholarships to student members. One such member is Max Sokol, AICP, who received the Charles Abrams Scholarship in 2011. Now a supervising planner with WSP and president of the APA New York Metro Chapter, Sokol pays it forward by serving on the APA Foundation Grantmaking Committee.
