The Bayou Greenways, one of many innovative planning projects in car-centric Houston, is ramping up efforts to become more bike- and pedestrian-friendly. More than 3,000 acres of largely neglected greenspace is being reimagined with parkland connecting communities and welcoming families, runners, cyclists, and more. When the project is complete, about 150 miles of trails and linear parks will run along and connect Houston's nine major bayous.

Redefining national hazard policy in the climate crisis
Planner Pete Parkinson, AICP, awoke one night to the sound of near-hurricane force winds whipping fires, which would claim his California home. Only months later, another Northern California fire destroyed thousands more homes. As the current climate crisis worsens, so will the effects of disasters on communities. Planners must reevaluate the way we apply hazard mitigation, adaptation, and recovery thinking to every disaster.
There's still time to weigh in on APA's Hazard Mitigation Policy Guide. Help ensure that equitable and proactive policy recommendations are captured. The ideas adopted in the updated guide will direct our advocacy on resilience moving forward. The comment deadline is March 10.

Two months into the 2020–21 CM reporting period
If you are in the 2018–2019 reporting period and have met the CM requirements, your CM Log will now have the option to review and sign off. Please review and close your 2018–19 reporting period as soon as possible to start logging CM for your 2020–21 reporting period to stay on track!
CM reporting cycles, explained
There are a pair of two-year CM reporting cycles (2019–20 and 2020–21) and every AICP member is in one or the other. Determining which one you're in is easy. Open your CM Log — you'll be able to view the start and end dates for your assigned reporting period.
