"Planners are uniquely positioned to address the subject of social equity.”
— Susan Wood, FAICP
The issues of environmental justice, racial bias, and an apparent rise of white supremacist groups have reached a crisis point in recent years. Now is the time for planners to come together and use their unique, holistic perspective and skills to address equity for the benefit of all members of our communities.

PAS Memo
Partnering with health systems on affordable housing investments

Many health institutions across the country have begun to explore how they can advocate for, invest in, and provide services at affordable housing developments in their communities. The latest PAS Memo explains — as part of a three-year Lincoln Institute of Land Policy initiative — why and how planners can partner with hospitals and health systems to create more equitable communities through affordable housing development.

Investment crowdfunding — raising funds through the "crowd" on web-based platforms — lets residents get involved as stakeholders and can offer greater equity in what and how plans are implemented. ICF offers a mechanism for funding the implementation of more projects, especially smaller or otherwise difficult-to-finance plans, and allows community members to invest in the project and play a greater role in decision making. The new edition of PAS QuickNotes explores how planners can use ICF to help enable plan implementation.
Moving from allyship to active accomplices

How do planners cultivate true institutional change within the planning profession? The APA Illinois and Wisconsin Chapters explored how to help planners embed equity into their professional work, addressing the complex issues of social equity and inclusion. Through an APA Chapter Presidents Council grant, the chapters hosted a multi-day training and created a comprehensive report and list of resources to help planners and their APA chapters move to action.
