This is a professional planning position responsible for complex planning work primarily in areas of current planning. Additionally, the Planner III will assist the Director in long-range community planning.

 The Planner III will be able to address the service needs of the public in a professional and competent manner. The Planner III must be able to provide timely, knowledgeable, and accurate information concerning the requirements of county policies, the county comprehensive plan and the zoning and subdivision regulations, among others, and how they affect the customer's property or proposals. The Planner III must be able to interpret and explain clearly all departmental rules, regulations, and procedures to the public. The Planner III will work with the office administrative staff to help citizens find answers to their questions or resolve any permitting issues.

The Planner III will work under the direction of the Deputy Director of Planning and Zoning as needed on a variety of projects. The Planner III will be responsible for processing development and zoning applications. The Planner III will be required to review applications such as: rezoning, subdivisions, special use permits and variance requests. The successful candidate will be able to aptly apply Leavenworth County Zoning and Subdivision Regulations and Policies to development requests.

The successful candidate will be able to clearly and concisely write staff reports for development requests. The Planner III must learn and follow established office procedures. The Planner III will review minutes of meetings for accuracy, grammar and completeness. The Planner III prepares and processes reports for other governmental agencies, which require research, computation, and compilation, at the request of the Deputy Director. The Planner III may coordinate or conduct special projects or particular segments of the departmental operations. The Planner III composes and types correspondence, and researches, compiles, and dispenses information to citizens, businesses, and other governmental agencies regarding departmental operations and zoning activities.
