RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist potential clients for Harrisonville looking to build or remodel existing buildings in the community.
  2. Coordinate the review of subdivision plats by other City departments. Schedule and chair plan review meetings with city staff and applicant(s).
  3. Respond to general inquiries and questions from business owners, potential clients and general citizenry concerning the City code and zoning ordinances and prepare packets of information.
  4. Attend and participate in meetings of the Board of Aldermen, Planning and Zoning, Historical Preservation Commission, Board of Adjustment as City staff and serve as a resource for these groups.
  5. Assist in the development of industrial parks, working with private land and building owners and seeking to improve overall community attractiveness.
  6. Conduct special projects at the direction of the City Administrator.
  7. Supervise and direct Planning, Building and Code staff in identifying tasks and carrying out departmental functions.
  8. Review subdivision plats and applications for zoning changes for compliance with adopted regulations and make recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and Board of Aldermen based on the reviews.
  9. Evaluate adopted ordinances and policies and make recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Aldermen on proposed changes.
  10. Coordinate the review of building plans and subdivision plats by other City departments. Schedule and chair plan review meetings with applicant's reviewers.
  11. Supervise the secretary in maintaining the Planning and Zoning, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and Historical Preservation Commission records.
  12. Respond to questions from the public and the applications related to adopted ordinances.
  13. Coordinate the review of subdivision plats by other City departments. Schedule and chair plan review meetings with city staff and applicant(s).
  14. Oversee and develop strategies to enhance the historical nature of Harrisonville by providing guidance to Historical Preservation Committee, residents, and businesses, coordinating with Cass County Historical Society, and working with groups focused on historical preservation.
  15. The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Baccalaureate degree in business, or planning is required. Skill in the preparation and presentation of oral and written reports required. General knowledge in the areas of government, business, engineering accounting, geography and real estate required. Ability to perform basic analytical processes required. Valid driver's license required. Ability to read and interpret maps and aerial photographs required. Basic knowledge of principles and practices of economics and planning required. Skill in developing and making presentations required.

EXPERIENCE:

General experience in a business environment dealing with complex issues required. Must have at least 5 years of City zoning and planning experience, as well as supervisor experience.
