The Urban Design Planner position will provide complex professional urban design and planning work and is part of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Planning Department's Long Range Planning Division. The Planning Department is seeking an individual to provide professional planning and urban design services on difficult, complex, and major urban design projects such as special planning studies, subarea plans, revisions to regulations or design standards, and other projects as assigned. They will also provide professional staff assistance to one of the design review boards and will provide staff support for projects involving difficult and complex urban design for development and redevelopment activities. This position is located within the Long Range Planning Division and works on both long and short-range projects.
Considerable independent judgment is required in interpreting and adapting professional standards and principles as well as official policies, ordinances, regulations, and guidelines to routine and unusual urban design and planning issues.
General supervision, review of work items, and establishment of goals is completed in consultation with the Long-Range Planning Manager and Planning Director.
Strong design skills, ability to communicate project concepts to a wide audience, and effective interpersonal abilities are paramount.
Planning and/or design experience and completion of graduate studies with a Master's Degree in city, community, regional, urban planning, or related field, and certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and/or American Institute of Architects (AIA) is desired.
