JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The University of Maryland Extension (UME) seeks candidates for a Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Educator position. This role focuses on developing, teaching, implementing, and evaluating research-based educational programs for youth and adult audiences. The position supports the health and economic prosperity of Maryland residents through programming in financial wellness, housing, public health, and community development.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary educational programs that address financial and community/economic development needs
- Conduct community needs assessments and use findings to create innovative, research-based programming
- Provide leadership in program areas such as financial literacy, housing, public health, and community development
- Deliver outreach through workshops, seminars, trainings, webinars, and blended learning formats
- Collaborate with Extension colleagues and statewide FCS teams to address priority needs of families and communities
- Engage participants using learner-centered strategies that promote positive behavioral change
- Build partnerships with local and state agencies, nonprofits, schools, businesses, and community organizations
- Collect evaluation data and report program outputs and impacts
- Pursue grant funding to strengthen and expand programs and applied research
- Disseminate knowledge through scholarly publications, presentations, and professional contributions
- Fulfill faculty expectations in teaching, scholarship, and service as a tenure-track member of the University
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in finance, business, family & consumer sciences, education, community or economic development, public administration/policy, public health, or related field
- Understanding of the Land-Grant mission and Family & Consumer Sciences
- Strong teaching, communication, leadership, and program management skills
- Ability to build and sustain community partnerships
- Experience documenting program impacts and producing scholarly work
- Proficiency with technology for educational programming and management
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the region and state
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field
- Certification in financial planning or financial education
- Extension or similar experience in community education
- Grant-writing and funding development experience
- Experience with advanced research skills such as AI/Machine Learning
- Ability to use marketing strategies to engage partners and clientele

- This is a tenure-track position with expectations for promotion under University and UME guidelines
