Solar Energy

The town's municipal code provides standards for roof-mounted solar collectors. It includes a section outlining requirements for solar panels/collectors, which allows roof-mounted systems not facing the street (§43-5.J). Panels must be mounted parallel to the roofline no higher than 6" from the roofline or the peak of the highest roof. The ERC may consider a number of elements in its review of applications, including placement location, concealment of supportive equipment, color harmonization, and aggregate size, roof coverage, or number of panels, but it should allow 70% annual access to sunlight and not be more restrictive than 10% of potential efficiency.
