Wind Energy

The city’s codified ordinances define and regulate small and large wind energy systems.

Its zoning code permits small wind energy systems as accessory uses by right in most zoning districts, subject to use-specific standards (§8.12.170(P)). These standards address location and construction, building code compliance, height, noise, compliance with FAA regulations, compliance with wildlife preservation laws, and utility agreements.

It permits large wind energy systems, subject to a discretionary use permit and compliance with building code standards (§17.36).

It defines “commercial wind energy system” and “small wind system” (§8.06.020).
