Hazard Mitigation

The city’s zoning code includes floodplain regulations that exceed the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s minimum requirements (§19.18.040). All new residential development on fill must be elevated at least one foot above base flood elevation. Nonresidential development must be elevated or floodproofed.

Solar Energy

In the city's zoning code, a section on power generating facilities offers residential standards prohibiting solar ground-mounted panels within the front yard setback and allowing solar panels to be placed on residential roofs as long as they conform with district height maximums and are mounted so as not to detract from the surroundings, such as by mounting the panels flush to the roof close to the roofing material (Sec. 19.55.020.C).
