Accessory Dwelling Units

The city’s zoning code permits internal, attached, and detached accessory dwelling units (ADUs) by right in all residential and agricultural districts, subject to use-specific standards (§17.86). These standards address application procedures, lot size, units per lot, owner occupancy, home occupations, subdivision and sale, conformance with applicable codes, design, height, lot coverage, orientation, parking, setbacks, unit size, lot covenants, transfer of property, limited amnesty for existing illegal units, appeals, and annual zoning administrator review.
