Comprehensive Planning

This city's comprehensive plan, adopted in 2016, achieved Silver-level recognition in APA's Comprehensive Plan Standards for Sustaining Places Recognition Program Pilot in 2016. The plan has four main sections: background, policy framework, growth framework, and implementation strategy. The policy framework comprises six guiding principles focused on sustainability and resiliency; a table summarizes the principles and lists associated planning and land-use topics addressed by each principle. The policy framework offers goals, policies, and strategies to further progress towards the guiding principles, as well as indicator tables for each principle that describe the metrics and targets that will be used to track progress towards goals. The growth framework describes the future land use plan's various land-use types and identifies four focus areas to which future growth should be targeted. The implementation section offers an action plan that lists strategies and assigns lead and partner entity responsibilities for both short-term and long-term actions.

Food Systems

This city's comprehensive plan addresses local food systems in its Policy Framework section on creating a safe, healthy, and adaptable community as a key element of a sustainable and resilient community. Policy 4.2 supports increased access to affordable, healthy food; supporting objectives address access and nutrition, education, food production, sustainable agriculture, sales, edible landscapes, and the local and regional food system. In the Policy Framework section on resource stewardship, Policy 5.4 connects agricultural production and preservation to the food systems issue.
