Integrated Water Resource Managment

Auburn’s code establishes a groundwater recharge area district as an overlay zone (§17.180).  This zoning district corresponds to all lands within the city that are mapped as most significant recharge areas by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in Georgia Pollution Susceptibility Map.  Within the overlay zone, the code establishes groundwater protection standards, including prohibiting land disposal of hazardous waste within recharge areas, requiring secondary containment for petroleum storage tanks above 650 gallons, and prohibiting new agricultural waste impoundment sites. It also addresses minimum lot sizes and septic systems.
