Burlington County, NJ, Comprehensive Farmland Preservation Plan
The county’s farmland preservation plan is very detailed. It notes that nearly 50,000 acres of farmland (roughly 45 percent of the existing agricultural land base) have been protected from conversion to nonagricultural uses, and sets a goal of the preservation of an additional 20,000 acres, with 10,000 acres to be protected through the county’s farmland preservation program and 10,000 acres to be protected through various other programs including state programs and TDR. The plan describes the county’s farmland acquisition program, and sets detailed goals, strategies, and indicators for these efforts.
