This functional plan addresses the emergence of a diverse small farm sector focused on local marketing opportunities and seeks to protect and promote farming opportunities to meet local market demand. It inventories agricultural crops and market opportunities, and addresses issues such as urban agriculture, food security, and agritourism. The plan also explores connections to the county’s comprehensive plan and adopted open space plans, as well as the county’s Unified Development Ordinance, and explores farmland preservation tools and funding opportunities. And it offers a list of detailed recommendations and action items, with implementation partners and timelines included.
