Farmland Protection | Food Systems

The township’s zoning ordinance addresses farmland protection. It establishes the Agricultural Zone (§202 et seq.) to permit, protect, and encourage the continued use of land for agricultural purposes. The  subdivision of parcels is governed by strict sliding-scale restrictions designed to preserve large farm tracts. It also limits the numbers of dwelling units by size of parcel and new dwelling units must be located on lots contained within areas of low-quality agricultural land, as defined by the ordinance, to minimize interference with agricultural production.
