What is Planners' Day on Capitol Hill?

This event is a series of meetings via video calls with your congressional offices.

APA arranges time for participants to have meaningful conversations — in small groups and/or one-on-one conversations — with legislators and their staff about federal action on zoning reform.

Learn about all the ways APA simplifies and streamlines this experience to prepare you to maximize your impact in meetings. Meetings with your congressional offices will only be guaranteed if you register by May 22.

When is Planners' Day?

June 12 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EDT.

What time zone does the schedule reflect?

All times are expressed in Eastern time.

Are nonmembers welcome to participate in Planners' Day?

This event is open to APA members only.

When will I be given access to the Planners' Day opening and closing sessions?

You will find the links to the opening and closing sessions in Advocacy Day, the platform where you'll access your meeting schedule and join your congressional meetings.

You will receive access to Advocacy Day closer to Planners' Day.

How do I register?

Register online here. For questions, please reach out to meetings@planning.org.

I need to cancel or update my registration. What is your cancelation policy?

Email meetings@planning.org if you must cancel, change, or transfer your registration. You cannot cancel or transfer by phone or on social media. You may cancel your registration in writing and receive a full refund until May 28.

What is the deadline to register?

We encourage you to register for Planners' Day on Capitol Hill as soon as possible. A meeting with your member(s) of Congress is only guaranteed if you register by May 28.

Registration by May 28 includes:

  • Access to at least one congressional meeting
  • Tailored training to develop your voice, communicate the critical role of planners in zoning reform, and identify your stories to change public policy at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Guidance on the latest pro-planning and pro-reform federal legislation from subject matter experts
  • Inspiration from planning champions working alongside planners to produce diverse, attainable, equitable housing nationwide
  • Opportunities to connect with other planners just like you, that want to come together to elevate the voice of our profession

Can I still participate in Planners' Day when I register after May 28?

Congressional meetings are not guaranteed after this date, but we will make every effort to secure a meeting for you.

How do I know if/when my meetings are scheduled?

APA's partner, Advocacy Associates, will let you know. You'll receive an email from advocacyday@advocacyassociates.com in May with your meeting itinerary, information on how to access your Planners' Day meeting(s), and who will be joining you in your Planners' Day meetings.

How do I prepare for Planners' Day?

APA's got you covered. You will be prepared to use your voice for change through:

  • Pre-planning call with Senate meeting leads
