MORE SESSION DETAILS

Civic technology, often abbreviated as civic tech, is the field of work and research that connects technology, planning, and residents. Civic tech often focuses on making government more transparent through technology innovation, open data, and increased citizen engagement. A groundbreaking report by the Knight Foundation put the emerging field of civic tech squarely on the map in 2013 when it examined clusters of innovation and investment within the field. The foundation found the field growing at an annual rate of 23 percent. If you are interested in the intersection of planning and technology, then civic tech may be a career choice you consider. Hear stories of career progressions and observations about the civic tech from public- and private-sector professionals with graduate degrees in planning, experience with Code for America, and experience in the field.
