MORE SESSION DETAILS
Fat City is adjacent to Jefferson Parish’s major shopping mall and includes 134 acres of commercial and residential development that began in the 1970s as a suburban substitute for Bourbon Street. This mobile workshop will feature a driving tour of the Fat City neighborhood, a panel presentation and discussion on site, and a walking tour of the Fat City pedestrian core. Explore legacy development adjacent to newly renovated or under-construction sites by bus. Then hear from a panel of seven individuals who contributed to developing and implementing a plan for Fat City’s transformation. Panelists will discuss the public engagement, visioning, regulations, infrastructure, financing, and politics that have started Fat City’s transformation to a vibrant, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood. Finally, take a walking tour of the pedestrian core to see firsthand some of the more remarkable changes to the built environment.
