MORE SESSION DETAILS
In recent years, New Orleans’s port and industrial operations have consolidated, allowing redevelopment opportunities along the Mississippi River. Following Hurricane Katrina, the city implemented a plan for a new riverfront park that connects to two of the city’s older historic neighborhoods. This project has spurred development interest—especially in the old industrial squares adjacent to the park—while also raising concerns of neighborhood character change and gentrification. Tour the opportunity sites and Crescent Park and stop along the way to observe and learn about the planning efforts for compatible development and the park’s commemorations of New Orleans’s port and rail history.
