MORE SESSION DETAILS

Ohio is not known for alternative transportation. On the contrary, residents love their cars and drive long distances between home, work, stores, and recreation. Metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) offer rideshare services (Rideshare Agencies), but they have been historically disconnected, outdated, and underutilized. The result is excessive, expensive, and environmentally unhealthy car dependence. To address the problem of too much driving, the seven Ohio Rideshare Agencies toppled political cubicles to develop a unified platform to manage transportation demand through innovative technology. The result is a comprehensive, multi-regional, web-based, mobile-friendly Transportation Demand Management (TDM) platform: Gohio Commute. Gohio Commute launched Ohio TDM services into the 21st century with premier multimodal trip planning, ride matching, and trip logging across the entire state. The platform helps employers promote commuting options to their employees and provides organizations with real-time data on workplace parking demand. Commuters receive incentives and have responded enthusiastically. Launched in May 2017, Gohio Commute’s more than 22,000 users have logged more than 30,000 non-single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) trips to save more than $100,000 and prevent nearly 100 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Come hear best TDM practices; interact with panelists about government agency collaboration; and learn how such collaboration promotes common interests of constituents.
