Tiny Houses and Micro-Apartments

The city’s zoning code defines and regulates micro-apartments as a distinct type of dwelling. It defines “micro dwelling” as a dwelling unit with a floor area between 23.2 m2 and 29.7 m2 (§2). Standards for micro dwellings address tenure and affordability, floor area, permissible zoning districts, and maximum occupancy (§11.27). The city’s parking code includes off-street parking requirements by zoning district and unit floor area (Parking By-law §4.2.1) and bike parking requirements by unit floor area (Parking By-law §6.2.1).
