This case study provides an analysis of how various improvements affect safety and the on-street user experience for pedestrians and bicyclists in Michigan. The five case studies in this report, which draw on data collection taken from 2004 through 2010, examine measures taken to improve automobile, pedestrian, and cycling safety on the state’s roads. The researchers found that the study did not yield conclusive results on crash data in the improvement zones. In addition to an illustrated project description and crash analysis, each case includes an in-depth discussion of pedestrian and bicycle LOS, as well as a project analysis.
