This functional plan focuses on the importance of preserving the local agricultural economy, as well as the importance of preserving rural heritage and eating locally. It offers a table of recommendations, along with implementation timeline, responsible agency, and possible funding sources, that address actions relating to farmland protection strategies, farmland protection planning policies, farmland protection proposals for the county’s development regulations, economic opportunities for local agriculture, support for local food producers, and education and outreach. It also examines agricultural trends in the county; agricultural economic trends, challenges, and opportunities; and the impacts of land use decisions and costs of community services.
