Built Environment and Health
The city’s comprehensive plan addresses health in its Guiding Policy Principles and in its Sustain element. The seventh Guiding Policy Principle describes creating a culture of health and points out some aspects of the built environment that contribute to poor health among residents. The first goal in the Sustain section is “Become a healthier Cincinnati” and includes strategies that cover environmental health and energy consumption, mortality and disease rates, and food systems. Each strategy shares a list of public and private stakeholders that will help the city achieve the desired results.
Form-Based Zoning
The city’s comprehensive plan includes policy recommendations that support a form-based code approach. It identifies the need to support and create pedestrian-oriented neighborhood centers along with other human-scale goals that will guide the city’s future development.
