FAICP Statement

Bruce Knight has spent his career advancing the cause of planning to citizens, planning officials, and his professional peers. Because of his thoughtful, outspoken leadership and clear consistent advocacy for his profession, Bruce has helped his community and his professional organization achieve their highest potential. Inducted 2003.

Professional Biography

Bruce Knight has served as Planning and Development Director of Champaign, Illinois for 30 years and as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Illinois in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning for 10 years. He became a certified planner in 1985 and was elected to the AICP College of Fellows in 2003. Knight served as President of the American Planning Association from 2009-2012, on the APA Board of Directors from 2000-2008, and as the Illinois Chapter President from 1997-2000. He also chaired the APA Great Places in America Task Force. He brings to this session an extensive understanding of the role of the planning profession in shaping American cities.
