Inside Look: Grand Opening of KC Streetcar

For the first time in more than 50 years, streetcars are once again running along the streets of Kansas City, Missouri. The new line — running from Union Station along Main Street through the heart of downtown to River Market — opened on Friday.

To mark the occasion, APA Missouri member Joe Blankenship took over APA’s Instagram account as he reported live from KCMO. Here’s a look at highlights from opening weekend:

Maggie Priesmeyer, Education Program Coordinator for BikeWalkKC – a local Kansas City advocacy group – is enjoying 3rd Street in the River Market neighborhood – a complete street that was designed in conjunction with the streetcar.

To learn about the planning, funding, and partnerships behind KCMO's new streetcar, listen to the latest edition of APA's podcast available on our homepage now.

Special kudos goes out to the Kansas City Section of APA Missouri. Without your on-the-ground reporting, these behind the scenes looks wouldn't be possible.
