Outdoor Lighting

The city addresses outdoor lighting in its development standards (§1.3). This ordinance, adopted in 2007 and amended in 2008, establishes standards to mitigate lighting and glare impacts. It provides detailed standards for lighting in commercial and industrial zones that prevent light trespass and sky glare, as well as general lighting performance standards. The use of dark-sky friendly light fixtures is recommended.

The city's code of ordinaces notes that solar panels and other rooftop devices on historic buildings are to be placed so to be inconspicuous from the street and not damage any character-defining features of the building (§18.5.14.1).
