Solar Energy

The city's municipal code permits onsite-use energy generating facilities by right in all districts, allows solar energy power generating facilities as conditional use in manufacturing districts, and implements solar access permits.

It provides for "non-combustion power generating facilities," including those powered by solar energy, as conditional uses in manufacturing districts subject to standards, including evaluation of impacts on costs/benefits, aesthetics, water quality, air quality, and utilities (§22.304.9.g). "Power Generating Device Incidental to Onsite Principal Use (less than 1 MW)" is permitted by right in all districts (§22.304.5.w).

The municipal code also establishes solar access permits; if vegetation must be trimmed, the solar collector owner is responsible for costs (§22.422).
