This general plan's Climate Change Element includes best management practices to be implemented for all residential projects with 50 or more units and all nonresidential projects with at least 50,000 s.f. (Goal CLI-1, Objective CLI-1.1, Policy P4). Climate BMP No. 3 states that commercial projects should incorporate solar roofs and residential developments should be sited, wired, and plumbed to support solar installations (p. 12-14).
This element also includes numerous policies and a table cross-referencing policies in other elements under Objective CLI-1.5, which addresses expanding and adopting policies and programs that will "help to provide energy efficiency alternatives to fossil fuel use." Specific policies recommend developing an alternative energy development plan, expanding incentives for solar roofs, using solar energy on municipal facilities, exploring regional collaboration, and using GIS to map and assess renewable energy resources (pp. 12-29–12-33).
