Solar Energy

In the city's Climate Action Plan, Buildings and Energy Strategy 8 (p. 16) discusses exploring changes to the permit fee structure that would incentivize the installation of more energy efficient equipment or renewable-supportive building design (e.g., "solar ready" buildings). Buildings and Energy Strategy 9 discusses determining the feasibility of using franchise agreements to support renewables because they provide an opportunity to plan for better integration of distributed solar PV into the grid (p. 17).

The third strategy under Industrial Buildings involves investigating the feasibility of large-scale renewable energy purchasing for municipal government and residents. This involves creating policies and programs that promote readiness for renewable energy into all new commercial and residential buildings and developing a solar-ready building certification (pp. 21, 22). Strategy 5 promotes support of new financing and ownership models for the development of the city's solar resources (p. 22).

Under Transportation and Land Use, the city states that it will encourage the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) to explore investment in renewable energy sources like solar (p. 30).
