Solar Energy

The township's land use and development regulations include a section on solar farms (§140-139.1). Principal-use solar energy systems on parcels 10 acres or larger are permitted by right in AI, GI-10, GI-5, OP-10, OR-10, and OR-5 districts with site plan approval. The code lists requirements for site plans and requirements for installations addressing setbacks, height, landscaped buffers, lot coverage, glare, aesthetics, and accessory structures. Clearing for system installation must be minimal, and systems should be sited so that tree removal is not required. The code includes decommissioning requirements, including a decommissioning plan submitted as part of the site plan application process.
