Accessory Dwelling Units

Hawaii authorizes a total of two internal, attached, or detached ADUs on any residentially zoned lot, subject to maximally restrictive development standards. (§46-4.8). These standards address long-term rental restrictions and sufficiency of utility infrastructure.

Hawaii requires all counties to prepare comprehensive plans. And it authorizes all counties to adopt zoning regulations.
